Back in 2014, I was invited to contribute to Fr. Al Kimel’s fine blog, Eclectic Orthodoxy. The essay I contributed grew into a book — The Woman, the Hour, and the Garden: A Study of Imagery in the Gospel of John (Eerdmans, 2016). I have reproduced and updated that original 2014 essay below as my second post on John in this series.
