Well... thanks for this.

He mentions an Ashram in Shillong, Megalaya at 11:30. I was there 16 years ago. We were doing charitable works out there for a time. It was really my wedding present to my new wife who had never been abroad before, even at age 39. She came back to England pregnant - so... with this and looking back, I might say, my mid-teen is my Vedantic daughter.

Thanks again for this introduction, so much.

Thanks for this recommendation. Through the insistent prodding of your brother David, I have been very keen to learn Vedantic thought. This channel wiil supplement my investigation. I love this speaker, btw. Recently watched him discuss the philosophy of idealism with Bernardo Kastrup. Great minds.

Is there a difference between modern meditation and premodern prayer. I get a sense from reading Thomas Merton that he practises contemplation which is a mix of the two. Any thoughts. Also have you seen John vervaekes new series on after Socrates because I really fee you would like it. If so any thoughts

I'm not sure what you mean by "pre-modern prayer." There has always existed a wide variety of prayer forms and practices, including the practice of silent meditation/contemplation. The "perennial philosophy" is a term that indicates the commonality found in all the great traditions, ancient and modern, despite their differences. Even though we live outwardly in a scientific and secular world culture today, and that has made a great impact on our psyches (both for good and ill), the interior life in practice retains certain features that would be recognizably the same in any age. I haven't seen Vervaeke's series -- thanks for the tip to check it out.
