In the comments section of one or two previous posts, there has been a discussion about the role of the Virgin Mary in the Christian Tradition. I have written on this topic — all too briefly — in my books, The Woman, the Hour, and the Garden: A Study of Imagery in the Gospel of John (Eerdmans, 2016) and Silent Rosary: A Contemplative, Exegetical, and Iconographic Tour Through the Mysteries (Wipf & Stock, 2021), and also in an essay for Fr. Aidan Kimel’s “Eclectic Orthodoxy” page, which I reproduced for my Substack series on the Gospels last year (that essay can be read here). Below, I have reproduced a portion of the Introduction to Silent Rosary (hence, the reference to praying the rosary) to address the discussion I mentioned. And it’s suitable for the Advent season.
