Herdern who plays Marley is awesome in that film, off course as well as Sims. Frankly, i can’t watch any other version; that might have more to do with the power of personal Christmas Past than any thing else.
I've seen most of the others, maybe all. I even tried watching the execrable BBC "re-imagined" version a couple years back, but couldn't stomach it for long. The 1951 Sim version simply is the finest, never done better.
You’ve named memories I couldn’t myself identify. I have vivid but partial images / recollections of what I now realise is The Box of Delights (which I must have watched in 1984). I’d resigned myself to never remembering where they came from. As soon as I heard the theme tune I knew. Extraordinary and wonderful. Thank you !
Thanks for your list of Christmas recommendations! I am especially excited to know that the Box of Delights was filmed and can be viewed. I just recently finished reading this marvelous book, as recommended by author Benedict Brown as his favorite Christmas book.
I don't think you'll be disappointed by the 1984 production. Even if I couldn't watch everything else on my list one year, I'd still make sure to watch this.
Addison, as a child born in the 90s, there’s only one adaption of A Christmas Carol to which all others shall be compared to, and it started a certain Frog!
Last year I watched the Denholm Elliott version of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” and found it quite charming (available on YouTube). Thanks for the recommendations!

I have watched the 51' Christmas Carol for 60 years, but never ever ever watch the colorized version.
My advice: Don't. It's a work of the Evil One and should be eschewed -- with garlic and a crucifix if necessary.

True. There wasn't a frog or even a prehistoric Muppet in the 1951 movie.
Alas! Thank you for the recommendations!

Gratuitous in the highest sense. A wonderful box of delights. Thank you!
Thank you kindly.
Gravely disappointed that this did not become a disquisition on why Patrick Troughton is the best Doctor Who
I have to save that for the pneumatikoi among us who can handle such strong doctrinal meat.
